I think fishing in acidic water, as well as being able to drink it directly or cultivate crops in it, is not very scientific

Sorry for butting into the discussion. I was also thinking about this feature. It is enough to fry the fish, if it is "raw" then when eaten it will cause the same effects as regular water. Drinking water is a bit more complicated.

Yes, I used to have a mechanic where if you drank the water bottle it would hurt but removed it because there's not a lot of value in it (you do not actually need to drink in the game). This could be added back in, and also filtered water can be made with a dripstone above a cauldron.

Conditions for Cauldron Water Dripstone Fill:

1. A water source block is placed above a block (any block type).
2. That block has a pointed dripstone attached underneath it (facing downward).
3. Below the dripstone is a cauldron.
4. The cauldron is in a biome where water won’t freeze, and the chunk is loaded.

If the water in the cauldron is then taken with a bottle, the water will have lore added to it being "filtered" and will be able to be used for potion making (or drinking if you really really want to). Potion making with non-filtered water will not work.

Would it be more reasonable to use a furnace for smelting, as it can even melt ores
